Why Sicily?

Since we come from different countries - Espen from Norway, and Stef from the UK (with family in Italy and Poland, and friends scattered across Europe), we were always going to have to make a choice as to which country to celebrate our wedding in. We decided to opt for Italy, due to Stef's family roots in Sicily - as well as it being the most romantic choice. We also opted for late June to give our guests the option to extend their trip, since it's a beautiful summer holiday destination. We have provided some tips for your travels, should you wish to stay longer!

How do I get there?

The wedding will take place in Scopello on the west coast of Sicily. There are three airports you can travel to: Palermo, Trapani-Birgi and Catania. We advise you to travel to Palermo airport, which is most accessible, and has a range of international flights. Sometimes you might find good deals to Trapani-Birgi instead. It's also possible to travel to Catania Airport on the east coast and take a road trip west, but the drive is around 3 hours.

How do I get there from the airport?

You can pre-order a transfer service or a bus from the airport to Scopello or Castellammare del Golfo at discounted rates on Sicily Rental Car. Here, you can also rent a car for less than you would get at the airport, or through one of the major vendors like Hertz.

Where should I stay?

You can opt to stay in either the village of Scopello or the nearby town Castellammare del Golfo. 

 

Scopello is a picturesque coastal village known for its stunning rock formations crystal-clear waters and charming town centre with lots of good restaurants. It is close to Riserva dello Zingaro, a nature reserve with incredible beaches

Castellammare del Golfo is a gorgeous seaside town with restaurants, sandy beaches, and a lovely main street to wander up and down.​

You can also check out Airbnb or local villa websites for lots of amazing options. This could be a good option if you are travelling in a larger group - some villas also have private pools, and amazing views.

When should I RSVP?

Since we're organising a wedding abroad, we'd love to know if you can make it by 31st December 2024, so we can plan accordingly. Booking early also ensures you'll get the best deals on flights and accommodation. Please let us know if you need some more time.

Can I bring a plus one?

The invitations will include your name, and the name of your plus one.

Are kids invited?

Children (and any accompanying childcare help) are welcome at the Friday dinner and Sunday beach day. For the wedding day itself, we hope you'll take the opportunity to enjoy a night off and celebrate with us. However, we completely understand if attending without your children isn’t possible - please let us know, and we may be able to accommodate (although we won't have childcare or entertainment for children available).

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

The wedding ceremony will begin at 6PM. Please arrive at least 20-30 minutes before the ceremony to take your seat, so we can begin on schedule.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

The whole​ wedding will take place in the Torre di Scopello-Doria, which is an outdoor venue. We are expecting warm weather - so it should be comfortable to be outside the whole day.

What will the weather be like?

We are expecting temperatures of 25+ degrees, and in the evening the temperature may come down to 20 degrees or so. Keep an eye on the forecast, and bring something warmer if you think you might get cold (although we doubt that will happen).

Is the venue accessible?

From Scopello town, you can walk to the Torre di Scopello-Doria. The whole wedding day takes place at the same venue - there will be an 'ape calessino' - a small Italian vehicle, that will help transport guests around the venue if necessary (for those unable to walk, or those with heels).

What is the dress code?

Italian summer wedding! We'd love to see you in colourful long dresses, and lightweight/linen suits. We are expecting temperatures of 25+ degrees - so wear something you will be comfortable in the heat. The venue has old cobbled stone, so it might be smart to avoid stilettos, although heels with more of a block are totally fine! The only thing we ask is to avoid white (reserved for the bride) :)

Is it ok to take pictures with our phones during the ceremony?

We prefer to have an unplugged ceremony - there will be a photographer to capture all the special moments. But we'd love for you to take pictures during the aperitivo, the dinner and the party! There will also be a QR code on every table linking to an app that will give each guest 25 pictures to take on their phone, which will be uploaded to a common album after the wedding.

What if I have a dietary restriction?

That's​ absolutely fine - please let us know in the RSVP form, or send either one of us a message, and we will pass the information onto the caterers.

Will there be a bar?

We are providing an open bar for all our guests! We appreciate that you have travelled to be there for our special day, and we want you to have fun and enjoy our wedding. There will be an awesome DJ, so we hope to see you on the dancefloor.

How do we get back to our hotel or Airbnb after the wedding?

We are organising cars to take you back to your hotel or Airbnb when the wedding ends at 2AM.

Is there a gifts registry?
